How to use JBLab Secure Notes with USB flash drive

Do you want to move from one PC to another casually? If you say "yes" - this PIM has been designed for you!

Using JBLab Secure Notes (JSN) on a flash drive, you can carry your whole information just in pocket, in a structured, easy - to - access way. You don't have to worry about unauthorized access, as your information is protected by a powerful encryption mechanism.

All modern computers are equipped with a USB interface. All modern MS-Windows Systems support USB flash drives. Only on MS-Windows 98 and earlier, you have to install a special driver. If you use an old system, please consult the vendor of your device if a driver is available.

You can install the PIM on your USB disk using the provided installer or just copy the executable JBLabSN.exe to flash drive. In the last case the program will take less memory on your mobile device, 0.28 Mb against 0.36 Mb in the former case.
Copy your data files (*.jsn) to your flash drive as well as the files linked to your Notes. (MS-Office Documents, mp3 or graphics files, for instance).
Please don't forget that while the information in the PIM data files (*.jsn) is protected by the password, the other files may be unprotected. Please use the appropriate tools to protect your files linked to Notes but not managed by JSN.

Normally, you would run the PIM from a USB flash drive and save your information on that device, but you are not limited to that configuration.
To facilitate your work, we recommend to configure the back up in the following way:

  • If you run the PIM from a USB flash drive on your master PC, your files are backed up on the hard disk;
  • If you run the PIM from a USB flash drive on a guest PC, either disable the back up or specify your flash drive as the back up device.
The JSN configuration is stored on those Computers where you used it, so you can keep different configurations on different computers, always using the most suitable configuration for a particular PC.

Please be aware, that the PATH to your files stored on a USB flash drive may differ on different Computers. (Different letters may be assigned to the USB disk).
To make files always accessible, store your JSN executable in the same directory with the PIM data files as well as the files linked to your Notes. Use just a file name (not the complete path) for the linked documents.

You need to register your JBLab Secure Notes on a USB flash drive only once. After you have registered the PIM on a USB flash drive, you can use it with any PC without any restriction.
